New Users

Count of users who first installed the app during the selected period.

New users is a non-cohort chart that shows the number of users who installed the app within the selected dates.

The user's install date is based on their First Seen Date — see How Apphud tracks new installs and First Seen At for technical details.

Find New users under Analytics → Reports → Users in the sidebar, next to Active Users.

Apphud - New users chart

What's counted

A user is counted on their First Seen Date — the first time Apphud sees them (typically install, first launch, or first SDK call). Each user is counted once, on that date.

Users who reinstall the app after a long absence are not counted as new — they keep their original First Seen Date. For reinstall analysis, see Free Trials Performance → Redownloads.

Supported filters and segments

New users supports all standard segments and filters documented in Reports → Filters and segments.

Filter-only (not available as Segment by):

  • Permission group — segment support is planned, currently filter only.
  • Screen
  • Experiment variations

FAQ

What's the difference between New users and Active Users?

  • New users counts users by First Seen Date — once per user, on the day they first appeared.
  • Active Users counts unique device sessions per period bucket — a returning user is counted again every period they're active.

See Active Users for the DAU / WAU / MAU model.

Why is this chart non-cohort?

Because it plots users on their install date, not by an evolving cohort metric. Each day's bar is the count of new users that day — no time-since-install dimension.

Does this include users who installed via Family Sharing?

No. Family Sharing recipients don't install the app independently in the Apphud sense — they get subscription access without going through the SDK install path.

How does this relate to App Store / Google Play install reports?

Apphud's New users count is based on First Seen events from the SDK, not store-side install reports. The two will be close but not identical:

  • Store reports include installs that haven't yet launched the app.
  • Apphud counts users from their first SDK contact.
