Built-in Screens

Create, customize and delete the in-app screens your Rules show: promo offers, cancellation surveys, free-text feedback, URL buttons and messages.

Built-in screens are the in-app screens a Rule shows when it fires: a promo offer, a cancellation survey, a feedback form, an announcement. You customize them in the Edit screen editor, no code required.

Open the editor

  • New screen: in a rule's In-app action tab, set Presentation model to Built-in Screen, click Add new under Create new promo offer screen, pick a template and customize it.
  • Existing screen: under Select from existing screens, click the pencil icon next to the selected screen.

The editor

The preview is on the left. Use the device icons above it to check the screen on different device sizes. The settings are on the right, and Save is at the top.

The General tab holds the screen name, background (image and color) and font family. The Content tab holds the blocks of the screen. Each block can be expanded or collapsed. Which blocks you see depends on the screen type.

Cancellation survey screen

Content tab: Dismiss button, Image, Question (text, font, color, size, style, alignment) and Answer options. Each option has its own text, font, style, border radius, background and text color. Click Add option to add more. Raw CSS is available too.

On tap for an answer option:

  • Save answer and dismiss: saves the answer and closes the screen.
  • Save answer and present another screen: saves the answer, then shows the screen you pick under Select screen to present (the list shows your existing screens).

Free-text feedback screen

Used for open answers, for example Refund requested feedback. Content tab: Dismiss button; Question (text, font, color, size, style, alignment); Input (placeholder text, font, placeholder and text color, size, style, alignment); Button (title, for example Send, font, style); Raw CSS.

Screen with URL button

A screen with one button that opens a link. Use it to send users to another app, the App Store page of a different app, or a web page, for example when you move your audience to a new app.

Content tab: URL (the link the button opens), Dismiss button (image, On tap action), Logo (image), Heading and Subheading (text, color, size, style) and Button. For the button choose Apple's download button or Custom button, turn Animation enabled on or off, and set icon, label, label size, height, width, text color and background color. Raw CSS is available too.

In-app message screen

A short message with a logo, heading and description. Use it for announcements, for example a maintenance notice or a promo of a new feature.

Content tab: Dismiss button (image, On tap action), Logo (image), Heading and Subheading (text, color, size, style) and Raw CSS.

Where answers go

Choice answers and free-text answers appear in the rule's Analytics tab: see Built-in Screen statistics and Feedbacks.

Delete a screen

To delete a screen you no longer need, use the delete icon on its card under Select from existing screens and confirm. Deleting can't be undone.

A screen that is still used by a rule can't be deleted: Apphud lists the rules that use it, so remove the screen from them and try again.

Adding and deleting screens requires write access to Rules.
